I thought I’d start 2009 off on the right foot, which is why I signed up for Ashley Wren’s fab looking online class…

It’s also going to provide me with a reason to use this poor little blog, which has been neglected in cyberspace for far too long!

I’ve been eagerly trying to log in to the 1st day’s lesson but because I’m 1 day ahead of the girls in the States, I might be waiting a little while more!

Stay tuned!

The Creative Type

I’ve actually “created” something!

Can you believe it?! Finally!

I stumbled across a challenge blog called The Creative Type on SIS and even though typography has never been a *massive* area of interest for me, maybe it should be, considering I studied journalism at uni and am rather obsessed with words!

I actually felt like this was a blog I could contribute to, despite being new to scrapbooking and not having all of the products that people seem to use. Words, I can do. I’m all over that!

Here was the theme for the first prompt:

“Create a concert poster(or even a movie inspired poster layout) inspired introduction of yourself! Of course with type being the main focus, create your own type, make it pop off of your piece, makethe type the focus. Use big letters and small letters, silly letters, bold letter, etc. Use colors, or go simple, add different elements, collage, sew, paint, add pictures, etc. Pretend you are designing a poster to introduce who you are! It can be in the form of a layout, an ATC, a page drawn in your art journal, anything. You own the creative license on how you go about this, rock out to some music in the background, pretend you are a rock star and have fun with it.”

I was imagining a funky, circus-style poster with lots of red and yellow, and one of those old school 1950’s posters of a girl calling into a loud hailer, then put my info in a speech bubble thingy. I was going to do my poster on scrapblog but sadly, it wouldn’t let me sign in this morning so I just tried doing my own thing.

It didn’t turn out fantastically but I’m just proud of myself that *I* actually made something for once, as opposed to lurking on blogs looking at things other people have made!

Here is the poster I took my basic design inspiration from…

And I just took the idea of the scroll with swirly text, and the ribbon, and filled the ribbon with words after stamping “love” all over the background…

My take

The text reads:

I am a born traveller. I dream of travelling the world, taking photos. My family mean the world to me and I can’t wait to start a family of my own one day…

I suppose I should have thought about what I was writing, but I was just having a play, scribbling away, and it just sort of tumbled out!

Thanks for looking!

Hello world!

Welcome to my little blog!

I have been a long-term lurker on some of the amazing art, craft and scrapbooking blogs out there and I thought it was time I claimed a little piece of internet-land as my own and made it my creative home!

I’m very new to papercraft and scrapbooking but if my love of photography, stationary and paper is anything to go by, I don’t think it’ll be long until I’m hooked!

Thanks for stopping by!
